This homemade authentic Indian pickle serves as a good accompaniment for any simple dishes.


  • Lemon-1 kg
  • Black salt-3 tsp
  • Salt-150 gm
  • Ground black pepper-1 1/2 tsp
  • Cloves-2 tsp(optional)


  1. Grind all ingredients,except the lemons.
  2. Slit the lemons to four pieces,but don’t cut fully,stuff the powders.
  3. Keep in air tight bottle,pour juice of 6 lemons and shake well.Keep the bottle in sunlight for a month,shaking regularly.
  4. Or until the lemons are soft and brown,
  5. These homemade lemon pickles can be kept for more than a year.In Mediterranean countries they even add full spices like pepper,cloves cardamon,for extra flavor.
  6. It can be added to any salad .Make a simple sweet sour salad with sliced onion,tomato,chili,along with the lemon pickle,mash well.Varieties of pickled salads can be prepared with this lemon pickle as basic.
